Notes for Joseph Chew

He served as Major under Washington in the Revolutionary War. He was married in Virginia and emigrated to Ohio near the present site of Athens in Harrison Co. in 1809. They then moved to Richland Co. in 1821 and settled on the Rocky Fork on the land now owned by Joseph Stewart (22 Oct 1873) where he remained for some time and then moved to his present farm (section 15) which he cleared out. Mr Chew found the country about him perfect wilderness inhabited by the different wild animals peculiar to the state among these, the snake family.
