Notes for Samuel Chew

He was styled Samuel Chew "of Maidstone", a tract of land lying on the west
side of Herring Creek Bay near Annapolis, Md., and was also known as Dr. Samuel
Chew. He moved before 1740 to Dover, Delaware and was appointed in 1741 Chief
Justice of "the three lower counties"--Newcastle, Sussex and Kent--then
belonging to Pennsylvania (Keith's "Provincial Councillors of Pennsylvania,"
page 325).
