Nana (Jo) was born in Boston. She was the daughter of a Pool Hall Proprietor. She learned to play the piano in a silent movie theater. She could play any tune you could hum or any she heard. She was a kind, pleasant lady who enjoyed entertaining. She liked to play cards (rummy, hell, poker, etc.) She had 3 children and many relatives. Her sister, Dolly (Stella), was on the stage and acted with Rudolph Valentino and friend of the 7 Little Foys.

7 January 1913 (Tuesday) Weather Cloudy. "Stellas Birthday (14 years) Leah was in afternoon Pa was awfully sick when he went out. P. and A.N. telephoned afternoon. Were in eve., Anna & I - Ma & H.T. played bid whist - A.N. got sore went home. Game ended 5 points to 4 in our favor. When Pa came home sick with cold. Spent eve with P. Clara & Edith went to Berkley. Had tickets for St. James Theatre but let Mabel & Stella use them."
8 January 1913 (Wednesday) Weather Rain. "Pa was in bed all day. Has terrible cold. Auntie was up and told us all about C. being locked out. H.T. & Mary went to National. H. MacK was in also A.M. to see Anna."
9 January 1913 (Thursday) Weather Cold! "Eldon came home to-day Pa dressed himself today but didn't go out. P. was in. Introduce himto Pa, also to E. W. - M. R. was in also Mollie. 22 January 1913 (Wednesday) Weather Fine. "Woman upstairs telephoned gave party our number. H. MacK was in. Wouldn't go up Berkeley, so Mabel, Clara, and Mollie H went up Armstrong's Didn't check clothes came home early. Dollie & I went to show. Gertrude Dolan was in dancing till 2AM. 29 January 1913 (Wednesday) Weather Wet Snow. "Leah & Minnie werer in afternoon. Auntie was up gave us ticket for Postal Clers. Had 3 big tickets & 3 small. Rita M., Clara, Mabel & Harold, Mary, Anna & M.R., and I went to Mechanics. Lexie was in Went right back"
30 January 1913 (Thursday) Weather Fair. "So tired after dance. P. telephoned me. Anna Sullivan & Dollie sang & danced Dorchester Club. Mabel went with them. Met Dot on way home. 31 January 1913 (Friday) Weather Poured Eve. "Woke up at 8 o'clock with all my clothes except my stockings & slippers which I kicked of in bed. Lexie came and went with Mary & me to K of H. hall. 3 February 1913 (Monday) Weather Snow. "Pa was home all day. Had callers in morning. Went up Odds. Clara didn't have good time. Mabel & Edith met Walter D. and he said he was up Paine and had his hat & coat stolen. Was supposed to go to Paul Revere with F. but he didn't come in. Wasn't disappointed. 5 February 1913 (Wednesday) Weather Fair. "Telephone collector came. Pa went to work. Jennie was here to supper also Lexie. P. came in to tell me he had to go on job Worchester 3 days. Mary, Anna, & I went to Parker Memorial Hall. Had great time - 5 dances after last waltz. Fellow asked me for 44th waltz. M.R. called for Anna. Sporty came home with Mary and had fellow with him. I met Lozenges at D&W Sta. Oh what a freeze out!"
6 February 1913 (Thursday) Weather Cold. "Made coat for Dollie. Started on her costume for 22nd. Family moved in suite 5. Had date with S. but had to go to Wyman's with Stella. H.T. was in also M.R."
7 February 1913 (Friday) Weather Cold. "Had date with S. also Mary with A. and Anna with L. - S. didn't want to go to a dance but other two did so we went up Berkeley. Immense time! Didn't have one bad dancer. Asked to go to Wedding Sun. Sat out intermission with fellow, S was looking blind for me. Got sore went home early. Had two fellows home with me. P. came in. Got home from his job today."
8 February 1913 (Saturday) Weather Fair. "Awfully tired after last night's dance. P. called me up. Went down to Crawford House and he & M.R. came in together. Anna, M.R. & P. and I went down Chinatown to Hong Far Low's had chop suey and also candy. Was made acquaintance with W.E. Clark (Nimmy) Fruces in when we came home. Said he couldn't get one on telephone. Told him was too bad!"
9 February 1913 (Sunday) Weather Fine. "Went to Wedding 5 o'clock. Had lots of fun. Gave us lots of candy, cake flowers. All the wine & tonic & beer anybody wanted. Yong orchestra. I went out in a funny dance. All alone with fellow dancing in middle of floor. Everybody clapped! P. was sore. Lost Mary & her friend. H.T. was sore. M.R. telephoned was sore. P. was awfully sick."

Mae, Lizzie, Joe, Lozenges & everybody was there. Gave Lozenges one dance. Met Ben Gordan said he used to work for Pa. Chicken wanted to come home with me but I didn't let Cutie come."

23 June 1913 (Monday) "Dollie & I went to boat to see Mary & Anna off on vacation to St. John. Clarence & I went to Brown's also Mabel, Clara, Edith Madeline. Met Harold at train. Mabel, Harold, Clarence & I went to see machine Clarence works. Met Mr. Mason, Mr. Bickford. Song contest"
24 June 1914 (Tuesday) "Didn't have a date but C. came in when F. was here. F. went to Camp meeting. C. wanted me to go to races but I wasn't dressed. So he stayed with me. Thought I was going automobiling with some fellows who waited at door at eve for Mrs. Best."
25 June 1913 (Wednesday) "Was going to church with C. but had bad weather. Clara, Edith and Madeline went to Brown's. Anna's friend received letter from her. We haven't heard from them yet. Dollie received card from Aline Murphy who sailed on same steamer."
26 June 1913 (Thursday) "Waltz contest at Browns but none of us went"

29 June 1913 (Sunday) "Malcolm was in. Dollie lost black & tan dog "Queeny." She, Clarence & I went to Harold MacKenzie's house."

1 July 1913 (Tuesday) "Gee! Some hot! Ma couldn't sleep all night. Received letter from Anna & Mary."

10 July 1913 (Thursday) "Went to Melrose"

18 August (Monday) "Dollie & I came to Houghs neck. D. went home at 7PM. I came for vacation."
19 August (Tuesday) "Jimmie W. was here in afternoon. Ella and I went to the neck with her brother his wife and another man. Three of them out on roller skates. Ella & I went to Bungalo and had last part of dance, when we were through went outside and met C. S. some surprise! He came home with me and stayed with W Club from E. B.
20 August (Wednesday) "Had great sail today. Mrs Pamsey two children and rest of us. Met C. down at house went for walk"

23 November 1913 (Sunday) "Married in the evening - 156 guests reception 3 policemen came up - bagpipe 2 pianos lots of entertainment. My old boyfriend sang 'Come Josephine in my flying machine' but I didn't go. Today is my birthday & I rec'd lots of gifts - Some Wedding!"
