Notes for Robert C. (?Cager) Brashears
Some records specify his death occurred in Guilford Co., NC and others: Jul 1786 Rocky Springs NC
!Charlie Brashear (SDSU) author of "Two Brashear Families": ** No evidence at all that RCB m. a second time. No evidence at all that he had a second wife, Charity. If whoever can come up with a document to prove it, I'll be glad to change my mind, but right now, all the evidence is that Charity Dowell lasted until the early 1780s. Her brother Peter Dowell gave testimony in the "Hewlett vs. Brashear" case in 1798, and he doesn't not act like or suggest that RCG, whom he knew well, ever had any but the one wife, is sister, Charity Dowell.
!More Charlie Brashear: **I really doubt that Basil, Isaac, Martha, and Charity were children of RCB. All his other children are mentioned in some way in the records; these are not. I suspect (cannot prove) that they are children of a different Robert Brashear, d. 1810, Knox Co, TN, mentioning daughter Martha Morrow in his will, a hypothetical s/o Basil Brashear, b. 1714, and Ann Belt

!Charles Brashear's book, "A Brashear Family History, Vol. 2 Robt. C. Brashear of NC and descencants in TN, KY, MO, TX, etc."; page 44: "Land family historians claim another daughter for Robt. C. Brashear and Charity Dowell: Charity Brashear, b. 1757 (according to her husband's Rev. War Pension application). Charity (Dowell) Brashear would have been 46 when this child was born, some 9 years after Elizabeth (Brashear) Allen. It's possible that Charity, b. 1757, was a "change of life" baby. There are no other eligible parents of record in Guilford Co, NC, at the time, so I am tending to accept Charity as a daughter of Robt. C. Brashear and Charity Dowell."
8. Charity Brashear, b. c1757 (age 63 in 1820 application of Moses Land for a Rev. War Pension), d. May 1834, St. Clair Co., Illinois; m. 2 Dec 1783 in Guilford Co., NC, Moses Land, b. 1759-60, VA, d. 16 Oct 1847, St. Clair Co., IL, s/o Joseph and Sarah Land. (Someone copied his surname as LAMB in one of the marriage registries; looks like a simple clerical error.) Moses Land's obituary appeard in the Belleville, Illinois, "Advocate", Dec. 9, 1847. (Ref: Danhauer-Land Genealogy, 1611-1981, by Minnie Land Larson, data forwarded to C. Brashear by David Sailors ; data from Thora Thompson ; Janis Ragar, 2330 S. Marvin, Sedalia, MO 65301.) The DAR Patriot Index (p. 399) shows Moses Land was married to Charity Beshears; that he was a private in the Continental Army and was from Virginia; that he was born before 1764 and died in 1848; and that a copy of his pension papers are on file in the National Archives. Pension file S36037 says he enlisted 30 Jun 1780, Orange Co., NC.
