HWvL, died March 11, 1944, in old greenwich, ct., survived by his second wife, nee Criswell, known as "Jimmie". writing in 1952 for an updated edition of "the story of mankind", gerard willem (elder son) calls the grandchildren (his niece and nephews, presumably henry van loon's children) "Piet, Jan, Dirk and Jane". Apparently there was only one granchild in 1935 when "around the world with the alphabet" was published; it would seem that the subsequent three were born between 1935 and 1952. i do not have a copy of Gerard's biography of his father, and i think it is out of print. the web has the 1921 edition of "mankind" in the "gutenberg" series, and part of "a short history of discovery". good luck in your continued searches.
