He graduated from Yale in 1961 with a BA. He then went to Western Michigan
University and got his MA in 1965. He got his Ph.D. from Purdue in 1969.
He is active in the Episcopal Church, on the board of Trustees for the
Episcopal Divinity School, Cambridge, MA. and co-chair of the Committee on
Ordination Process in the Dioceses of Pennsylvania.
