Date 23 July 1824
Will of Samuel Packwood, sick and weak in body but of perfect mind.
Legatees: All of my estate both real and personal to be enjoyed by my well beloved wife Elizabeth Packwood during her natural lifetime, except such useless stock or other property as she may direct my executor to sell in order for distribution amongst the legatees. After the decease of my wife all lands except 63 acres lying on the south side of Smith River and adjoining land whereon Charles Smith now lives and being part of the land sold him by William and Elisha Packwood which rite and lawful title I want said Charles Smith to have. The balance of land is to be sold by the executors and divided as follows: Give the profit of said land equally to my children: William Packwood, Richard Packwood, Rachel Smith, Valentine Gearhart, Nancy Packwood for the benefit of Sally Bartlett's children, to Nancy Packwood for her own benefit, Edith McCutcheon, Elizabeth Prillaman, and Elisha Packwood. Elish is to pay $100.00 out of his legacy to be divided among the rest named. My daughter Nancy Packwood is to have a negro girl.
Executor: My daughter Nancy Packwood and neighbor Peter Smith.
Witness: Larkin Packwood, Grandson Leseur, Richard Stone

The wife of Samuel Packwood was Elizabeth Turner, the daughter of Shadrack Turner (will dated 1783, Henry Co., VA). Their children are named in a will which was probated at Stuart, Patrick Co., VA, on the 25th day of July 1824 (Will Book 1, pg. 141). .......etc.
Samuel and Elizabeth Turner Packwood are buried in the Prillaman Cemetery near the Patrick and Franklin County lines. Note that Elizabeth Packwood's second husband was Abraham Prillaman. (daughter. of Sam & Elizabeth T. Pack) Samuel Packwood owned land in Henry Co., VA.

Samuel Packwood had land near Shadrack Turner. He was a witness to Pittsylvania Co., VA Deed on Dec 25, 1770, Bk. 2.
Packwood farm was in Patrick Co., VA until lake was formed that cut Patrick County into 2 parts; NE part joined Henry County.
Elizabeth was in the 1830 Patrick Co., VA census.

In the name of God,Amen. I ,samuel Packwood of Patrick Co.Va. being sick and weak in body, but of perfect- sound mind and disposing memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same-andcalling to mind that all flesh must die; do make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament-in manner following.
First- As touching my wordly estate; after paying and contenting(sp) all my just debts. My will and desire is that all my estate both real and personal shall be enjoyed by my well beloved wife Elizabeth Packwood during her natural life except-such useless(sp) stock or other property as she may direct my executors to sale in order for distribution among the proper legatees.
Item 2. My will is that -after the deceas to execute lawful business relationse of my aforesaid wife that all my land except-sixty three acres of land lying on the south side of Smith's river adjoining the land where on Charles Smith now lives and being a part of the land sold him by William and Elisha Packwood which rite and lawfully title .I want -said Charles Smith to have said 63 acres of land.
The balance of my land to be sold by me Executors and divided as follow giving the profits of said land equally to my children namely; William Packwood; Richard Packwood; Richard Packwood(typo error perhaps); Larkin Packwood; Samuel Packwood;and Rachel Smith; valentine Gearheart; Nancy Packwood for the benefit of Sally's Bartlett's children;Nancy Packwood for her own benefit;Edith McCutcheon;Elizabeth Prillaman. But my will is that Elisha Packwood pay a hundred dollars out of his legacy to be equally divided amongst the rest as named.
Item 3. My desire is that my daughter Nancy Packwood have my negro girl-Esther with her increase after the death of my wife Elizabeth Packwood for her lawful rite and property for ever. The balance of my estate consisting of one negro fellow called Ambrose , all my houselold and kitchen furniture, plantation tools and utensils of all description, stock(looks like H) of every kind be
sold in like manner with my lands and divided as before directed.
And lastly, I hearby nominate and appoint my well-beloved daughter Nancy Packwood and my neighbor Peter Smith, my lawful executrix and executors to execute lawful business relative to my said estate. In witness whereunto, I do hereby publish and declare this to be my last will and testament - in presence of Larkin Packwood Grandason Lesubler Richard ( Storie) sp? Samuel Packwood
