Notes for Nathan Ellis
Buried in the Ellis family cemetery on the hill overlooking Aberdeen, Brown Co., Ohio in Sec A lot 1 grave 1- 350 feet North of US Rte 52 in Huntington Township. The inscription on his monument "Captain Nathan Ellis 1749-1819, Soldier in the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. Founded Aberdeen." He established the 1st Ferry Boat from Limerick (Maysville) to Aberdeen which was called Ellis' Ferry in 1816. Papers in the Brown County Court House prove this claim. He was the commanding Capt. of the Regiment of Washington County, Pennsylvania Malita under Col Daniel Broadhead. Served in war of 1812 as Capt of the 4th BN PA Malita under Albert Foulks. Nathan assisted Jonathan Zane and John McIntire in marking out the Zane Trace in 1797 and 1798. Aberdeen was once known as Ellis' Landing. Nathan was the first Justice of the peace an office he held until his death in 1819
