He became a very ardent Quaker in Nansemond Co., 1660, and records indicate that he was a principal Quaker leader in that county. He was a member of the House of Burgesses for Nansemond Co., 1696-97. He made his will in Isle of Wight Co., VA
!Quoted from the work of Larry R. Stanley: "Thomas was the first Quaker of his family and became very prominent in the faith. He had ten sons, some of whom became Quaker ministers, and two daughters."
