Notes for Margaret Quinton Edwards

!Charlie Brashear (SDSU): Maiden name Edwards NOT Quinton

!Abstracts of Land Records of Dorchester Co. MD, by James McAllister, v 10,p654 1728- Walter Quinton deeding "Horsepond Ridge" and "Hambleton's Marsh" to his god-daughter Margaret Edwards. Some years later, John Nicks and his wife, Margaret, sold "Horsepond Ridge".

!Ref. Wills, Dorchester Co, MD; Accession #HR1297-1; will dated 25 Mar 1727/8; and Maryland Archives, X:654 : in 1753, John Nicks and his wife, Margaret, sold that same land to Peter Davis of Talbot Co, MD.

!A Brashear(s) Family History, Descendants of Robert and Benois Brasseur; Vol. 2; Robert C. Brashear of North Carolina and Some Descendants in TN, KY, MO, TX, etc., by Charles Brashear; page 78: Edward Hambleton m. 27 Nov 1701, Elizabeth Quinton, apparently a sister of Walter Quinton; among their children was Margaret Hambleton, b. 22 Aug 1704, m. 31 Jan 1727, William White.
In May 1728, the long and involved will of Walter Quinton of Dorchester Co, MD, names several heirs he calls "cousins," (that is, nieces and nephews): Edward Hambleton, Sarah Hambleton, Margaret Hambleton, alias White (she had married William White). To God-daughter Margaret Edwards, tracts called "Horsepond Ridge" and "Hambleton's Marsh" ...
In 1753, John Nicks and his wife, Margaret, sold "Horsepond Ridge" and "Hambleton's Marsh" in Dorchester Co, MD, to Peter Davis of Talbot Co, MD. (Refs. Wills, Dorchester Co, MD; Accession #HR1297-1; will dated 25 Mar 1727/8; and Maryland Archives, X:654. Thanks to Betty Palmisano for Xerox copies.)
From this will, it would appear that Margaret Edwards, who was about 10 years old in 1728, was a d/o of a sister to Walter Quinton.
Thus, Margaret, wife of John Nicks, was not a Quinton, as many researchers have thought; she was an Edwards. But it should be no surprise that she named a son Quinton, in honor of her benevolent uncle, Walter Quinton.
