!US Census 1850 (22 December) Arkansas, Hempstead Co., Mine Creek, Roll M432_26, Sheet 526, Page 263B, House No. 88, Lines 10-18: Moses Mahan (b. 1795 - 55 - in SC - Occ: Farmer - Property Value $1100) married to Elizabeth (b. 1798 - 52 - in VA). Children listed (born in AR) are: John L. (son b. 1823 - 27); Letha (dau b. 1827 - 23); Benj. F. (son b. 1830 - 20 - Occ: Laborer); Elthea L. (dau b. 1832 - 18); Augustus (son b. 1834 - 16 - Occ: Laborer); Andrew J. (son b. 1837 - 13); and Joshua (son b. 1817 - 33 - in IL - Occ: Carpenter)

Last known living in Fannin Co, Texas, 1871, where he made application for a War of 1812 Pension, stating that he was 76 years old; had lived in Tennessee, Illinois, and Hempstead Co, Arkansas; that he had been employed to take the place of Robert S. Mahan, who had been drafted 15 May 1812 in Rhea Co, Tn; that he served in Capt. Berry's Company of Tenn. Militia, and fought in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (as did Isaac Mahan). He substituted again in Sept 1814 at Knoxville for Wm. Houston and was discharged March 1815, at Mobile, Alabama, from Capt. Rodgers Company. Both he and his widow received a pension, and he received two 80 acre land warrants in Hempstead Co, Arkansas, 11 May 1851. The 1850 census of Hempstead, AR, gives him a son, Alexander, b. 1825, and the 1870 Census, Collins Co, TX, gives his age as 75, b. SC.
