Notes for Mark Clare
!"The Brashear(s) Family History,..." by Charles Brashear and Shirley Brasher McCoy:
No proof for this man as husband, but seems most likely. Based upon "A History of Calvert County" by Charles Francis Stein on page 243, there is a reference to the marriage - "Mark Clare, Calvert Co., of "Clare's Hundred" and "Lordship's Favor" married daughter of Brasseur."
!Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. II, page 217: The will of Mark Clare "of the Clifts" of Calvert Co., dated October 2, 1696 and proved on May 26, 1700, devises to Eliza, wife of John Hunt of Calvert, Co. and Mary, wife of Richard Wells, including 200 acre "His Lordship's Favor." Executors: John Hunt.
It is assumed that Mark probably already had given "Clare's Hundred" to one or both of his sons. Therefore he didn't mention them in his will (or perhaps they were already dead) and since the grandchildren already had their share he didn't mention them either.
