Apr 1828 - 72 - in Germany - Occ: Day Laborer - Fa: Germany and Mo: Germany) married 50 years to Caroline (b. Sept 1831 - 68 - in Germany - Fa: Germany and Mo: Germany) having 10 children born and 7 still living.

John came to the United States in 1846 when he was 18 years old and lived in Stamford, Connecticut. He was stationed in Texas and serving in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War. Described in bible as 5'5", dark complected, with brown hair and eyes. He served in the U. S. Infantry under Capt. John Beardsley, 8th Regiment. He enlisted on May 3, 1847 to serve for 5 years. He was honorably discharged on May 2, 1852 at Camp Johnson, Texas. He is listed as having been employed as a shoemaker prior to joining the Army. John became a citizen of the United States while living in Connecticut on March 1, 1857.
