!The First 200 Years of Brashears in America by Charles Brashear; pgs 225-226: "Capt. Ely Brashear, s/o Capt. William Brashear Jr, b. 1774, d. 10 Apr 1837, FredCo, MD; m. PGCo, 14 May 1799, Julia Magruder, d. 1835, FredCo. They appear in Anne Arundel, Howard, and Frederick Co Records. Both are listed in Deaths Since 1821, Zion Parish, FredCo MD, as is an unidentified William Brashear, d. 15 Aug 1827, who may have been a son. Ely served as a Captain in the War of 1812. In the 1820 census, Election Dist #9 (New Market) FredCo, they have eight children: 21201-12010.

On 5 Sep 1829, Ely Brashears of Frederick Co, MD, sold to Beale Gaither of Montgomery Co, MD, for $20, two lots (#12 & #62) in town of Lisbon, AACo, on north side of Baltimore to Frederick Turnpike, that were conveyed to said Ely Brashears by Caleb Rancost, by deed dated 18 Dec 1822. The deed is endorsed on the back: 5 Sep 1829, Frederick Co, MD, "appears personally Ely Brashears of Frederick Co" before Belt Brashears and Washington Burgess, two justices of the peace ... and acknowledges. Julia Brashear, wife of said Ely Brashears, being examined separately, ... acknowledges (MdHR, AACo Deeds, Book WSG#15, p.125).

This indenture made this 30th day of November 1837 between Ellen Brashears, Tabitha P. Brashears, Allan B. Brashears, Mary A.F. Brashears, Thomas M. Brashears, Festus Dickinson, and Dennis F. Brashears, the legal heirs of Ely Brashears, dec'd, late of Frederick Co. State of Maryland of the first part, and Alfred Dorsey, of Anne Arnundel Co, MD, of the second part, ... for #27.50, do bargain, sell, etc, a lot of land in the town of Lisbon, containing half an acre, being the same lot of land of which Ely Brashears died seized....
