The death of Dr. Joshua N. Hatcher occurred on Monday [Mar. 2] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. Kazar, corner of West Green and Dunbar streets, at the great age of 90 years. He passed away shortly after eating his dinner. Dr. Hatcher was born in the state of Virginia, March 12, 1805. He had made his home in Decatur during the past eight years. He did not have many acquaintances here. Two sons and a daughter survive the old gentleman. The burial will be in Greenwood on Wednesday morning.
The Inquest.
On account of the suddenness of the death of Dr. Hatcher it was deemed necessary to hold an inquest. Coroner Bendure impaneled a jury and an inquest was held at the house. Mrs. Kazar the daughter of the deceased, and one of the neighbors were examined. The jury returned a verdict of death by perfectly natural causes unknown to them. The jury was composed of Dr. E. B. Walston, Dr. James L. Bevans, Howard Hanthorn, James Moran, C. A. Black and B. T. Glover.

Dr. Joshua N. Hatcher, who was buried to-day from his late home, corner Green and Dunbar streets, was born in 1805, or two years before Fulton invented the steamboat and 27 years before the first successful railway locomotive. He was 39 years old when the first telegram was sent. Ninety years is a long time to live in this fast age of the world. The doctor was a member of the Christian church 57 years. He came to this state from Kentucky eight years ago. Rev. George F. Hall conducted the funeral services and the interment was at Greenwood.
