Notes for Joshua Pigman
!1812 WILL: JOSHUA PIGMAN Book F Page 365 filed 1851 Clermont,OH:
In the name of God Amen. I Joshua Pigman of Clermont County and State of Ohio being very weak in body but in perfect mind and memory, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs I hereby ? be better prepared to leave the world when it shall please the Lord to call me from it do make and publish this my last Will and Testament and desire that it may be ? as such by all whom it may concern. And first I commit my Soul unto the Land of Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my [successors?] hereafter named. After my just debts are paid I devise and bequeath as follows.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Levi Pigman the ? parcel of land where on he now lives and the land lying within the lines and courses which are here mentioned being part of a tract surveyed for Robert Cradock No 892 beginning for said land at a ? corner to Walter Griffiths of said survey running thence north ? degrees west 172 poles to a white oak and dogwood in a line of the survey thence with said line S 45 ? 46 poles to a hickory and Blue Ash in said line, thence S 95 E 220 poles to a Hickory Sugar tree and Hackberry (thorns). North 61 East 120 poles to an Ash and Elm then North 11 East 62 poles to two dogwoods and Hickory in a line of Walter Griffith thence with Griffith's line North 45 West 60 poles to the (intersecting?) laid out for 176 acres to the same more or less. The above mentioned land and premises I leave to my son Levi his heirs & assigns in Fee simple to be ? & their Right forever.
I also give and bequeath unto my second son Joshua Pigman, Jun. that part of a tract of land which I bought ( smudges) James ? lying on that side of the Creek where he now lives with all the houses and other advantages thereunto belonging to him his Heirs and assigns forever. I further leave to my son Joshua one hundred acres of land lying in Ohio County Kentucky ? The one half of this land belongs to Joshua but was deeded to me, this land I will and bequeath to Joshua his Heirs and assigns forever.
I also give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Griffith 111 acres of land being part of a tract of land surveyed for Robert Bradock No. 892 beginning for said land at Gums and Sagewood in a line of the original survey and corner to Joshua Pigmans and running with said line south 45 past 77 poles to a hickory and two small maples in said line and corner to Joshua Sargents thence with Sargents line south East 133 poles to two (ashes?) in another line of the survey and corner to Joshua Sargent thence within line of the survey S 48 west 38 poles to a stone in said line thence north 39 west 50 poles to a black walnut and sugar tree thence north 45 west 119 poles to a ? corner to Levi and Joshua Pigman thence with Pigmans line north 45 East 126 poles to the beginning. But be it remembered that Sarah Griffith must pay her mother fifty seven and a half dollars for the 11 acres of land over the hundred agreeable to a contract between myself and Walter Griffith for which was over the hundred acres . Secondly I give and bequeath unto Sarah Griffith one hundred acres out of the said tract beginning foresaid (very smudged line) to the survey and (smudge) John ?'s survey (very bad smudge) Line of the survey north 45 west 127 poles to an ? and ? in said line thence north ? 126 poles to a ? and Elm then south 45 east 127 poles to a ? and Beech in ? lines of the survey and lines Harkley's survey. thence with said line south 48 west 126 poles to the beginning laid and for one hundred acres more or less to her the said Sarah Griffith her heirs and assigns forever.
I have a claim on a tract of land on the waters of Green River, Ohio County, Kentucky laid out for six hundred acres I give and bequeath that tract of land to my three children, namely Levi, Joshua, and Sarah to be equally divided between them to their their heirs or assign
Also I give and bequeath unto my friend Hester ? a Roan mare now in my possession to be her right and estate forever.
Also I give and bequeath unto my grandson Joshua R Pigman son of Levi Pigman one hundred acres of land beginning with said hundred acres at two sugar trees and ? in Morgan's line and south corner to John O'Bannon's Survey and corner to the survey I bought of Robert Cradock and ? with ? line of the survey to the corner of Levi's part of the same survey thence with Levi's land which is south 35 East on that line one hundred acres ? running another line parallel with ??line down to the creek and with the creek to the lower line of the survey then ?? with the lines of the survey to the beginning ???the hundred acres ?????I leave this land to my grandson Joshua, his heirs or assigns for ever.
I also desire that all sums of money that (smudge) or may be hereafter paid to me by Walter Griffith for the land herein bequeathed to Sarah Griffith shall be refunded back to the said Griffith except for the acres above mentioned.
Lastly I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Jemima Pigman the plantation wherein I now live with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and the use of any of this land not left to any of the children nor held out of the tract which I bought of Robert Cradock during her natural life and likewise all my household furniture, stock of horses, hogs, cows, etc and all other things belonging to me with all the monies due me after my debts are paid. All these things I leave my beloved wife Jemima Pigman during her natural life and after her death I will and bequeath to my son Joshua Pigman, Jun. his Heirs and assigns all that part of the tract of land which I bought of Robert Cradock not left to the other two children and my grandson Joshua and sold to Joshua Sargent and John Miller (?) The balance I leave to my son Joshua which is about 240 acres more or less to heirs or assigns for ever. But first if my daughter Sarah Griffith ?? believing at his mother's death it is my wish that Joshua pay him one hundred and fifty dollars after he get possession of the ? land and plantation whereon I now live which I leave and bequeath to my son Joshua his Heirs and assigns for ever.
And I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Jemima Pigman executrix and Joshua Pigman, Jun. (my son) executor of this my last will and Testament, revoking and annulling all former wills or testaments made by me confirming this to be my last will and Testament. In testimony where of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twentieth day of April. In the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve.
