Notes for Robert Taliaferro

Latin: Taliaferro, Talia, meaning to cut, and ferro, meaning iron.
The Norman warrior who was with William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings, and the one who had the name of Taillefer, was doubtlessly a member of the family that descended from one of the Counts of Angouleme.
It is not known just how the emigrant Robert Taliaferro was connected with the early Taillefer family of England and the foregoing is only given to show the origin of the name.
About 1638-1645 Robert Taliaferro came to America from England and from him we have descended.
