!Delaware Historical Society, microfiche copy Prettyman Family File: Elijah Barret was the son of Rev. William and Eliza Barrett Prettyman. Eliza was the grand daugher of Phillip Barrett who gave "Barrett'sChapel" to the Methodists. The Chapel is known as the "Cradle of Methodism". Elijah was the head of the Maryland School System for many years and President of Baltimore, Maryland Teachers College.

Elijah Barrett Prettyman purchased the Prettyman family home, Rockville,Maryland, in 1881 from his sisters-in-law. Lydia Forest Johnston, his wife, was one of the sisters and was the daughter of Captain Zachariah Forrest Johnston, U.S.N., and the grand daughter of Soloman Holland, the original owner, who held many public offices in the post-revolutionary period.
