Co., Baltimore, 1981, Vol. II, p. 798.: "About 1580 George Pendleton of Manchester married Elizabeth Pettingale, died 1613 leaving a son, Henry (1583-1635), who maried Susan Camden of London, daughter of Humphrey and Cecily (Pettus) Camden, and granddaughter of Thomas Pettus, Mayor of Norwich (1591), member of an opulent family, and they left a son Henry Junior (1614-1682), who married a relative, Elizabeth Pettus, leaving two sons who emigrated to America in 1674. The elder (Nathaniel) died soon afterwards leaving the other (Philip) to become the first of the Virginia Pendletons."
