It is unknown what year Ruth Madden was born. According to a flagstone marking her grave she died in 1848 in what is now Wirt Co. WV. She is buried in the Sheppard Cemetery near Palestine, Wirt Co. WV. Ruth Madden was probably an orphan. At the time she and Robert Sheppard was married she was a Ward of a Hugh Crigan of Harrison Co. VA. !Harrison Co., VA Marriage Book Page # 389: Marriage bond dated Dec. 13, 1802.
