Notes for Absalom Caudle, Sr.

It is noted in the Caudle Family History by TC Moss, MD that Jesse Caudle stated that his grandfather Absalom Caudle, Sr. was a Revolutionary War Soldier and so was his maternal grandfather ( Mary Haney's father). Absalom joined the army at what is now Fayetteville, North Carolina but there is no record of the family owning land there. He may have been working there or went there to join up.

Absalom joined the Revolutionary Army of North Carolina, 10th Regiment (Officers were Capt. Robert Roan and Col. Thomas Clark) in November 1775 and was discharged in December 1776. He became a substitute for John Elwell of Bladen Co., North Carolina, served 3 months and was discharged in July 1780. He re-enlisted and served to the end of the war. His Revolutionary War pension application record may be obtained from the National Archives in Washington DC. He was pensioned at the age of 75. His record is erroneously listed as Absalom Candel or Candle. The name was used either as Caudel or Caudle, but Caudel was preferred.
