Notes for Samuel West
!Will of Samuel West, Montgomery Co., Md. 1777:
"In the name of God, Amen, this 13th day of of October one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven. I, Samuel West, of Montgomery County and state of Maryland being weak and sick but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form follwoing that is to say: I resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried with that decency as to my Executors shall seem meet and as touching such little estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this world. I give and devise in manner and form following that is to say:
First, I will that my just debts be paid,
Item: I give and bequeath unto beloved sons: Richard West, Sam West, William West and Norman West all the lands which I now profess to be equally divided amongst them after their Mother's death or widowhood, share and share alike to them and their heirs forever and in case any of my said sons should die before he arises to proper age to inherit his Estate, that then the part of Land so willed shall be equally divided among the other surviving sons.
It is likewise my desire that that plantation on Senica which Benjamin Holland now rents may be sold and the money to dischargemy legal and just debts in case my executors hereafter named shall find it to their advantage so to do.
I do hereby desire that my loving son, Richard West, should continue with his motherand take the charge of all upon him hoping that he will showtenderness to all his breathren.
And I do constitute and appoint my loving wife, Sarah West and my loving son, Richard West to be my whole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament revoking and making nul and void all other Will or Wills heretofore made by me. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
Signed, sealed, published and declared by the within testator to be his last will and Testament in presence of us: Thomas Peak, James Jorden, Elender Peak
Samuel West
Montgomery County February 10th, Anno Domini 1778 Then came Thomas Peak, James Jorden and Elender Peak the three subscribing witnesses to the within last Will and Ttestament of Samuel West late of said county deceased and severally made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testator therein named sign and seal this to be his last Will and Testament; that at the time of his so doing he wasw to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanfing and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this Will in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other.
