Notes for Joseph West

Was named executor in father's will [along with brother William, who decided not to act probably due to the fact he was getting ready to leave or had already left MD for South Carolina]. Final settlement of the estate was made in June 1778. In Dec 1778, Joseph sells to his brother William his part in the land known as Two Brothers. From Aug 1778- to Dec 1778, it seems that Joseph was selling his holdings to ready himself for a move out of Maryland. We know now he went to South Carolina.
Joseph doesn't show up on Census until the 1800 Census for Spartanburg Co - so he could have gone to VA or KY first- Joseph was a soldier in the Rev. War - Fifth Co., Middle Battalion of Montgomery County ( as were his brothers-John,Basil and William).
The West Family Register mentions that a son of Joseph West's, Walter, was born in VA, so this family probably went to Botetourt Co.,VA first- then on to SC.
