LITTLE CHILD KILLED WHEN HIT BY AUTO
Edna May Ridgway dies from Injuries suffered when car strikes her
Edna May Ridgway, two-year and nine month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Ridgway, 1044 Springs street, was struck down and fatally injured Sunday afternoon when she toddled into the path of a speeding automobile on the Little Rock highway, between here and Lonsdale. The child's skull was fractured. She was rushed to the Levi Hospital here in a Gross ambulance, but died at 10 o'clock Sunday night. Homer Wade, an employee of the American Express company at Little Rock and residing at 814 Cedar Street, that city, was driving the car which struck the little girl. Wade was arrested by City Detective Herbert Akers, who was later released under bond of $500 for his appearance in municipal court here, Wednesday morning. Witnesses said the accident was apparently unavoidable. Officers stated that the Ridgways had parked their car by the side of the road, headed west, while their little daughter got out and picked flowers. In returning to her car the child came into the road at the rear of the Ridgway machine and stepped into the open just as the Wade Car came by, headed toward Little Rock. The child was struck down and dragged for some distance by the other machine. Wade, who was accompanied by a number of Little Rock people, returned to the city, but after making bond, again started to Little Rock. All of Wade's companions were summoned to appear in court, Wednesday.
