Notes for John Cheney

He died on 12 Oct. 1671 in Suffolk Co., Massachusetts, at age 32 by drowning "as he was catching eales.." John entered Harvard College, but we know nothing other then his entrance. He drowned in a river, probably the Charles. The following record tells the sad story: "Found dead in our river; it was apprehended by ye Jury that he slipd in accidentally as he was catching of Eales.." He was mentioned in the will of William Cheney on 30 April 1667 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The estate of his was administered on 29 January 1671/72 by Humphrey Johnson of Hingham.
