Laura and her husband William Jackson, owned and operated a gas station in Arizona for a number of years. Laura had told her daughter Opal about running away from the reservation, but remembering about going in and visiting some grandparents there. They would sneak in so no one would see them and sneak back out again.

Opal Jackson Wilson stated that her daddy was always a farmer. He did own restaurants, gas stations, and other businesses, but still farmed. Will Jackson and Laura, his wife, bought a Gas Station in Casa Grande, AZ around 1939-1940. While he owned the station, he contracted cotton also.
