!"The Bowies & their kindred" by Walter Worthington Bowie: Joseph Haskins Bowie grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland and from there went to Baltimore, Maryland where he lived for some years, but about l843 he moved to Illinois, and then to California, and also lived some years in Texas, but finally returned to Monticello, Illinois. He died while on a visit ot St. Louis, Missouri, Jan 5, 1879 at the age of sixty-three.
