Probably killed by Indians while hunting with Daniel Boone. Militia officer in Indian Wars & Rev. War. Probably Presbyterian.

George Russell and his brother John were among the first white settlers in eastern Tennessee. Their brother-in-law William Bean explored the area with Daniel Boone and is described as the first white settler in east Tennessee. Wm. Bean cleared land and built a cabin on Boone's Creek in the area of the lower Watauga River in 1768. In 1769 he brought in his family from Danville, VA and soon after they were joined in the Watauga settlements by the Russells and others from southern Virginia. - extracted from WFT 2533 Vol. 7.

George Russell was killed by Indians while on a hunting trip with Daniel Boone on May 10, 1797 in Grainger Co. near Russellville, TN. Russellville possibly was named for him.
