Notes for Alexander McTavish

Tacksman of Garthbeg from 1777 until his death in 1788 - 2nd Battalion, 781st Regiment (Fraser's Highlanders) during the American Revolution.

Alexander held the tack for Garthbeg for 19 years from Whitsum 1784 (mentioned in the Inventory of the Means of his two sons). When he died at the end of 1788, with 15 years of the lease yet to run, the lease was regarded as part of the estate his sons inherited and it was subleased to Archibald McTavish for 12 years on November 12, 1789.
