!"Stovall Family in America" by Smith: Bartholomew, age 21, arrived in Virginia in late 1684 on the ship BOOTH, Captain Peter PAGAN, Master. Bartholomew had, on July 7, 1684, signed with his mark an indenture to John BRIGHT, a merchant, for a term of four years as payment of his passage. On Aug 16, 1715, Bartholomew received 318 acres of land by patent in Henrico Co., Va, at the confluence of Deep Creek and the south side of the James River, near Powhatan, VA, about 30 miles west of Richmond.
Baptised: Nov 11, 1683, Baptised Albury, England prior to his trip to America.
He was the first Stovall immigrant to come to America. Bartholomew was a Quaker. He could not write. Bartholomew STOVALL was married twice: The name of his first wife is unknown, but apparently he had a daughter by her, Hager STOVALL, who is mentioned in an estate settlement.
His will is listed in the Henrico Co., VA misc. court records, 1650-1807, Vol. 2, and probated 1 May 1721. He willed land along the James River to his sons George, William, Thomas, daughter Hannah, and wife, Ann.

The following apprenticed in Middlesex to go by the Booth, Mr. Peter Pagan: John Gatchell, aged 19, son of John G. of Up Hatch, Somerset, to John Bright of London, merchant, 6 years Virginia; Nicholas Barnes, labourer aged 23, son of Henry B. of Norwich, to the same, 4 years Virginia; ... ; Bartholomew Stowell, husbandman aged 21, son of George S. of Albury, Surrey, to the same, 4 years Virginia; ... ; Ann Dowly, aged 25, to Peter Pagan of London, merchant, 4 years Maryland.
