!Obituary - Rev. Gustavus C. Bird - Marcus Hook, April 6 -- Rev. Gustavus C. Bird, who was until recently rector of St. Martin's Protestant Episcopal Church at this place, died yesterday, in a sanitarium near here. About a month ago he became so prostrated from anxiety concerning affairs of his church and parish that he resigned and went to the institution for treatment, his family removing to Philadelphia. Mr. Bird's condition improved under the treatment until a few days ago, when he suffered a relapse and gradually grew worse until death ensued. Rev. Mr. Bird was born at West River, Md., in 1839. His parents were old residents of the State, his father, Benjamin Bird, being a prominent physician of the county. The deceased graduated from Dickinson College, and subsequently attended a theological seminary at Alexandria, Va. His first pastoral charge was in Centreville, Md., after which he became rector of Grace Protestant Episcopal Church, Honesdale, Pa. After remaining there several years he became assistant rector of the Emmanuel Protestant Episcopal Church, Baltimore. He left his charge in Baltimore to become rector of St. Martin's Church at this place, where he remained twenty-seven years. He is survived by a widow and five children. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, in the Church of the Resurrection, Broad and Tioga streets, Philadelphia.
