!The Gastonia Gazette," Saturday, May 25, 1957 - SAMUEL EDWARD ABERNATHY, MT. HOLLY: Samuel Edward Abernathy, 59, of Newton, died Thursday at 10:02 p.m. in a Newton hospital.
He was a native of Gaston county and the son ot hte late James Abernathy and Alice Baldwin of Gaston county.
Surviving are his wife, Mattie Joy Abernathy, and the following children:
Mrs. C. O. Barr of Belmont,
Mrs. Catherine Lewis of Shelby, and
Mrs. H. B. White of Houston, Texas.
Also surviving are two brothers,
L. B. of Mt. Holly and
Walter of McAdenville;
one sister,
Mrs. Albert Harkey of Lucia; and
five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. Officiating will be the pastor, the Rev. Ralph Carpenter and the Rev. Walter Long of Belmont.
Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Carothers Funeral Chapel in Mt. Holly. It will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral
