Born on 1 May 1906 - Rube’s life ended tragically, the result of a hunting accident, on 28 Dec 1920. Rube had received, as a gift, a new shotgun on Christmas Day 1920. Just a few days later, while hunting with his brothers, he held onto his gun while climbing over a barbed wire fence. Either he or the gun slipped and he was shot in the head and killed instantly on 28 Dec 1920 at the age of 14 years. Rube is at rest in the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Belmont, NC
