Notes for Thomas Lloyd

Thomas Lloyd was a Welsh gentleman and physician. He graduated from Jesus College, Oxford. He became a Quaker, and was arrested and jailed for his beliefs. He served as a Quaker minister. In 1683 he came to Philadelphia to avoid religious persecution. Soon after his arrival he became an important leader in Pennsylvania. In the fall of 1691 William Penn named him as Deputy Governor of the province. He lived at the northeast corner of Third and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia.
