Notes for Robert Sturdivant Adams

!The Ivy Family 1635 - 1984 in Virginia, Georgia, and Mississippi, by Robert Adams Ivy - Copy available at the DAR Library, District of Columbia: Thomas fought in the Battle of Vicksburg, where he was a Sharpshooter. He was captured in a river battle at Vicksburg. He was paroled and sent home, but like many others, he broke parole and re-enlisted. When the war was over his family who had no word of him and did not know whether he was alive or dead, saw a rider on muleback coming down their road. Thomas Rush had come home.
Thomas Rush Ivy made his way back to the university of Virginia in 1868 to study Latin, Greek, and mathematics. His records are still on file there. When he came back home to Mississippi, he married Mary Adams Dortch, niece of Robert Sturdivant Adams of Aberdeen. She had been born in North Carolina and when her mother died young, she, her sister Sallie, and her brother Isaac were brought to Mississippi where they were raised by their maternal Uncle Robert.
