Salyer (b. 1841 - 29 - in IN); and A. J. Mathis (b. 1851 - 19 - in MO - Occ: Domestic Servant)
!"History of Fayette Co., Indiana" in Chicago; Warner, Beers and Co., 1885: A. J. Salyers, merchant, Columbia township, a member of the firm of Salyer and Jemison, dealers in general merchandise, Nulltown, IN, was born in this Co., Dec 30,1833, son of Charles Salyer and Margaret Waters Salyer, natives of South Carolina, Charles salyer, born in Greenville Co., SC on September 9, 1797, was a son of John Salyer, also a native of South Carolina, where the latter married Elizabeth Scott, and about the year 1810 moved to Franklin Co., IN, and thence a few years later to this Co., where he remained until his death. His children were: Charles, James and Margaret. Charles, the father of our subject, came with his parents to Franklin Co., where he was married in 1817 to Margaret, daughter of John Waters, born August 12, 1801. After their marriage they settled in Jackson Township, Fayette Co., IN where she died Dec. 1861, and he subsequently went to Montgomery Co., IL, and there married Sarah McKnit, remaining in that county until his decease, Nov. 1 1867. He was the father of twelve (12) children: Jesse W., Elizabeth, Ruhama, John B., Lucinda J., James M., Elizabeth A., Joseph D., Martin V., Lewis C., George P. and Andrew J. Our subject was married in Fayette Co., IN on September 22, 1858, to Caroline Layton, and in 1865 moved to Macon Co., MO., where the latter died July 26,1869. she was the mother of six children: Ella, Charity, Charles, Lewis C., Emma and Ada B., all deceased except Emma. Andrew Salyer was married on second occasion, January, 1875, to Mary Hail, by whom he has has five children: Claude, William, Kate, Luther B. and Harry [first 3 deceased] in 1878 Andrew Salyer moved to Jasper Co., MO., and then in 1879 to Cherokee
Co., KA, and in 1881 to this Co., where, in partnership with Williams and Jemison, he opened a store. After a time Salyer and Jemison bought out Williams, and the firm is now called Salyer and Jemison. Andrew Salyer is postmaster at Nulls Mills.
