!OBITUARY-News Standard - Uniontown, PA- Monday, October 12,1896: Dunbar- Oct 12, - The funeral of Alfred Bailes, the old pike boy, occurred Saturday at 1 p.m. Services were conducted by rev. W. F. McKain of the M.P. Church and internment in Franklin Cemetery. Mr. Bailes according to Mr.. Searight's book on the old pike, was probably the oldest survivor who drove teams on that highway. He was born in Louden County, Virginia, and came upon the road in about 1830, at the solicitation of John Bradfield, who was also a native of Virginia, and an agent of that line of wagons on the road. Mr. Bailes was born in 1804. In his prime he was upwards of six feet in height, and a commanding figure on the road.
