General A.P. Hill, after the death of Stonewall Jackson was second in command to Robert E. Lee. He was killed at Petersburg Virginia; his widow married Forsythe.
Lieutenant General Hill was killed a few miles from Petersburg in Dinwiddie Co., virginia, on April 2, 1865, just a few weeks before the end of the War. He has served throughout the Virginia campaigns, at Manassas ("Bull Run"), Sharpsburg ("Antietam"), Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg; he had also led a corps (along with Generals Longstreet and Ewell) at Gettysburg.
