!Note - Web site - William Llewellyn Powell, previous service in the United States Navy; name stricken from the rolls of the United States Navy, April 20, 1861; appointed lieutenant, Confederate States Navy; served as executive officer on the side wheeled steamer CSS Patrick Henry, James River, 1861; indicated to have been a first class artillerist; resigned from the Confederate Navy and appointed as colonel in the Confederate Army, November, 1861, and ordered to report to general Braxton Bragg, at Pensacola; commanded Fort Morgan at Mobile Bay, Alabama; died of fever before Farragut’s attack in August, 1864.
