I, Anna V. Lynn, widow of Dr. George Lynn, dec'd formerly of Newtown and lately of Cumberland, Md., do make this my last will and testament that is to say, the last will of said George Lynn having devised to me all his slaves for and during my natural life, with authority to dispose of them absolutely by will or otherwise, in execution of said power and priviledge my will is that my Executor herinafter named do immediately after my death emancipate and let free my negro man, Joe, Patty's son, who has been my carriage driver:-
2. I will and devise to Mrs. Anna B. Tilghman, widow of George Tilghman dec'd, my negro woman, Sarah, Patty's daughter:_
3. All the residue of my slaves and their increase or the proceeds in case I should sell any of them, so far as it may be unexpended at my death, together with any other property which I may leave after paying my debts and funeral charges, I devise in equal shares to my brother James Venable of Kentucky, my sister, Martha D. Manly also of Kentucky and my niece Ann Scott, daughter of my sister, Mrs. Frances Robinson, dec'd also of Kentucky, all the property embraced in the 3rd Clause of this my will. I charge expressly with the payment of my debts and funeral charges to the relief of the two servants named in the 1st and 2nd Clauses.
And, it is moreover my will that if any of the servants devised in this 3rd Clause should object to being removed to Kentucky, my executor shall in such case find them houses near their present homes in Virginia and Maryland, and dispose of them by sale to humane masters, the net proceed of sale to go to the said devises to whom such slaves if not sold, would go.
The devise to Mrs. Martha D. Manly is so modified as to make it a devise to her for her life only, remainder to her children in equal shares:-
I hereby appoint David W. Barton of Winchester, VA Executor of this my last will and testament.
In testimony whereof, I have hereto affixed my hand and seal this 1st day of November 1851.

Whereas, I, Anna V. Lynn, now residing with Mrs. Anna B. Tilghman near the town of Cumberland, the State of Maryland, have by my last will and testament deposited with David W. Barton in the town of Winchester in the State of Virginia, in and by which I have given and bequeathed my negro servants named Susan, Lucy and Martha to certain persons therein named
Now, I, Anna V. Lynn, being desirous of altering my said will in respect to the devising of said negroes who are all slaves for life, do therefore make the present instrument which I will and direct to be annexed as a codicil to my last will and taken as a part thereof, and I do hereby make the legacies and devices of said servants as stated in my said last will and testament, and do hereby will and bequeath and devise said servants as follows:
1. I do hereby give and bequeath to said Anna B. Tilghman, her executors, administrators or assigns, my negro girl, Susan commonly called Ann.
2. I do hereby give and bequeath to John Galloway Lynn of Cumberland, his executors, administrators and assigns, me negro girl, Lucy.
3. I do hereby give and bequeath to Virginia (Moss) Lynn, wife of Dr. George Lynn (Jr.) of Allegany County, State of Maryland, my negro girl, Martha, to have and hold for her own sole and separate use and property until her daughter, Ann Lynn arrives at the age of 18 years, and then to the said Ann Lynn her executor, administrator and assigns and in the case Ann Lynn dies then to the said Virginia (Moss) Lynn, her executors, administrators and assigns absolutely: and I do further revoke such and all such parts of my said last will and testament as disposed of the silverware now mentioned and described, and I do hereby give and bequeath to Betsy Lynn Campbell, daughter of John B.H. Campbell of Cumberland, half a dozen table spoons, one dozen tea spoons, one dozen dessert spoons, one cream spoon and one pair sugar tongs all of silver and lastly I do will and direct that my said last will and testament afore herein mentioned shall be and remain my last will and testament in all other respects and for all other purposes, except so far as the same is altered and changed by this instrument.
Witness my hand and seal this 15th day of February 1854.
