!FROM EMAIL NOTE & Obituary form the Culpeper newspaper - The Culpeper Exponent, April 7, 1949: Thomas Mercer Jones died 18 March 1939, after a long illness. His wife was the daughter of Dr. Robert Blish Macoy and Helen Peyton Hansbrough. She was born May 1895 and died after her son married in 1949. Robert Blish Jones, born 18 January 1922 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He married Barbara Vandersloot Bird , daughter of Mrs. Taylor Vandersloot of Kansas City, Missouri, 24 February 1949, in Las Vegas, NV. The announcement of his marriage gives a great deal of information about this only son, whom I have not been able to trace further. It lists his grandparents, says he was born in Culpeper and spent his boyhood there. He was a student at V.P.I. when he enlisted and went overseas as a fighter pilot in the 9th Air Force. In September of 1944 his plane was downed and they reported him missing in action. Badly wounded, he spent eight months in a German prison camp. After liberation by the U. S. Forces, he returned to the U. S. and was discharged with the rank of captain. He and his new wife with her small son by a previous marriage, moved to Minneapolis where he was employed by Stokely-Van Camp.
